Last Day Aboard AmaSiena: A Quick Stop in Riquewihr

Thursday, May 15, 2025

Our last stop along the Rhine River was in Riquewihr, a tiny French village renowned for its wine, half-timbered architecture, and its rumored inspiration for the village in Beauty and the Beast.

It was about a 40-minute coach ride from where our boat was anchored, and as you'll see from the photos below, both hot and rainy. My clothes were absolutely sticking to my body, and I look very ... moist in all the photos taken that day.

Again, because it was a significant drive from where our boat was located, we didn't have a ton of time in town, something that people considering doing a river cruise should understand going in. If we had been doing this trip on our own, we probably would have spent a couple more hours wandering into the little wine shops and would have tried to get close to the vineyards since they are *right there* at the top of the village.

Thankfully, as part of our trip, we had an "excursion" that included a guided walking tour of the main street through town and then, on the way back down, a stop at a wine tasting room. Afterward, we went shopping with Danny and Brad, and I managed to finally find my stork ornament (though it wasn't really an ornament; that's just how I planned to use it).

All in all, I'm glad we got to visit - even if it was only for a few hours. I mean, who wouldn't want to spend time in a place that looks like this?

Dinner was another lovely affair on board the boat, and we made an early night of it since we still had to pack for our disembarkation in Basel.
